The CHNet XRF scanner supporting the restoration of “L’Adorazione dei Magi” by Leonardo: the results of the diagnostic investigations at the “Salone del Restauro” in Ferrara

Collaborations, In-situ analysis, XRF

About one year after the Adorazione dei Magi has come back to the Galleria degli Uffizi, after being restored by the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, the results of some of the diagnostic investigations carried out during the study and conservation project will be presented on March 23rd at the Salone del Restauro in Ferrara.
The masterpiece by Leonardo, realised between 1481 and 1482 for the monks of San Donato a Scopeto, stayed for more than five years in the laboratories of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, where the characterisation of the materials, the applied technique, the conservation problems were studied. This study was fundamental in order to decide the guidelines for cleaning the painting and restoring the wooden support.
The CHNet laboratories gave their contribution to the diagnostic campaign with the X-Ray Fluorescence Scanner developed by the Division of Florence, which was used to characterise the drawing materials.
