Collaborations, Exhibitions, In-situ analysis

Ottavio Leoni (1578-1630) is one of the leading portrait painters of the the early seventeenth century in Europe, admired by Van Dyck and Velazquéz. He is the author of portraits of members of the aristocracy, popes and illustrious cardinals, of men-at-arms, artists, poets, musicians, but also of ordinary people, offering a faithful insight into the seventeenth century.

The exhibition “Volti e storie. Ottavio Leoni (1578-1630) ritrattista nell’Accademia La Colombaria e nelle raccolte fiorentine”, scheduled from November 16th to February 16th in the exhibition space of the Fondazione CR Firenze headquarters, focuses on a selection of drawings, engravings and miniatures by the artist. The exhibition is promoted and organized by the CR Firenze Foundation in collaboration with the Tuscan Academy of Sciences and Letters “La Colombaria”, curated by Piera Giovanna Tordella, the artist’s greatest scholar.

CHNet researchers have been involved in a diagnostic campaign on Leoni’s drawing, the results of which will be presented on February 13rd and 14th, when two days of interdisciplinary studies on the Rome of Ottavio Leoni will be held.
