In-situ Tomography of the Unmontu sarcophagus at the Museo Civico Archeologico in Bologna
BOLOGNA – By exploiting the opportunity given by the restoration of the egyptian sarcophagus of Unmontu, funded by the project «Restituzioni» of Gruppo Intesa San Paolo, a computed tomography of the sarcophagus was performed, in order to monitor its state of conservation, to point out its weaknesses and to study the construction technique.
The analysis was performed into the museum with the transportable instrumentation of the Physics Department of the University of Bologna and INFN-CHNet of Bologna.
More than 100GB of data were acquired, which are now being processed in order to obtain the complete virtual reconstruction of the sarcophagus.
