The research activities are focused on three main fields: development of new instrumentation, archaeometry and diagnostic for cultural heritage.
As for what concerns the development of new techniques, this is mainly focused on methods based on X-rays and luminescence, while for archaeometric measurements a laboratory for thermoluminescence dating is available. Moreover, material characterisation is carried out with both conventional and accelerator-based (proton and neutron beams) techniques. In particular, extensive experience has been gained on lapislazuli and on copper-silver coins.
Regarding diagnostic, a research line on X-ray Tomography is active.

Available Techniques:

Thermoluminescence and Optically stimulated luminescence Dating
X-ray Radiography (RX) and Tomography (TAC) in laboratory
XRF Imaging
